Beautiful wooden Urushi lacquerware tray (漆器の盆, Shikki no bon) with Maki-e (蒔絵) decoration of bats. Dimensions: height 4 cm, 38 cm x 38 cm. These trays were used in Japanese tea ceremonies and for serving meals. The bat and the moon are symbols of luck and protection in Japanese culture.
