Gracious Style
The Languedoc vase takes us to the lands of the Languedoc. Between sea and mountains, this sundrenched region in the South of France offers many landscapes: wide open spaces, shrubland, ancient massifs and beautiful gorges. The raw beauty of this land has inspired many artists, including René Lalique who designed this vase with accentuated relief and generous proportions in 1929. Fashioned in satin-finished and re-polished crystal, cactus leaves overlay in a graphic play on repetition. Trained as a jeweler at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris in the late 1880's, Rene Lalique gained recognition as an independent designer for some of the era's great jewelry houses including Cartier and Boucheron. Eventually, he turned to glassmaking, and his techniques were a triumph for the Art Deco movement. Every piece of Lalique is finely detailed and produced by hand in Alsace, France.
