A high-quality studio ceramic art jug vase, created by the renown German ceramist Gerhard Liebenthron (1925-2005). The large bulbous vessel with its remarkable rough finish in hues of red and brown was created in 1972, at the artist's workshop in Bremen, Northern Germany. Style and design of this impressive modernist jug is inspired by traditional rural folk art as well as ancient vessels. Both influenced Liebenthron's work during the 1970s. In his impressive pottery art Gerhard Liebenthron often experimented with various different compositions of ceramics, clay shards, structures and glazes. He participated in numerous international exhibitions since 1955.
