Designer Carlo Scarpa looked to the Roman Empire for inspiration for his 'Murrine Romane Numbered Edition' series for Venini, created in 1940. Shaped from blown Murano glass, this vase features an optical illusion along its surface, created by a series of chromatic patterns known as murrine in Italian.
