Gracious Style
This little treasure is an exact reproduction of a porcelain purchased by Mottahedeh from Christie's auction in 1992 featuring recovered cargo of of the Vung Tau sailing ship. The ship sank off the coast of Vietnam in 1690. The recovered cargo consisted of over 48,000 ceramics, mostly Kangxi blue-and-white porcelain from the kilns of Jingdezhen, and an impressive collection of white-ware. There were also many pieces of provincial ware. Faithfully reproduced in minute detail. A favorite with brides, Mottahedeh specializes in luxurious patterns and unique, elegant shapes that are reproduced from china found in museums and historical societies. The patterns feature complex and vibrant colors, and hand-painted gold decoration. The pieces are surprisingly fresh and timely, and look wonderful in both contemporary and traditional dining rooms.
