Set of four 17th-century engravings by French engraver Pierre Lombart, created during his time in London. All engravings were based on paintings by Anthony Van Dyck, and are part of 'The Countesses' series, which are considered Lombarts best works. Prints and frames are original circa 1660-1663. Frames are composed of black lacquer, wood, plaster, and gold paint. This set was acquired from a London estate. Name of subjects and attributes under the portraits are written in Old English. All bear the same attributes following the name of the unique subject: Antonius Van Dyck, Eques Pinxit, P. Lombart Sculpsit, Londini auec Privileige Du Roy, et ex parisis 1. Rachel Middlesexiae Comitissa (Rachael Cranfield, Countess of Middlesex) 2. Dorothea Comitissa De Sunderland (Dorothy Sidney, Countess of Sunderland) 3. Anna Sophia Comitifsa De Canaruaen (Anne Sophia Dormer, Countess of Carnarvon) 4. Philippvs Comes Pembrokiae (Philip Herbert, 5th Earl of Pembroke) All engravings match in size, mat, and frame.
