Original hand-colored botanical print from an early edition of “English Botany”, the monumental work by James Sowerby that portrayed over 3000 plants native to the British Isles. Sowerby (1757-1822) was an English naturalist, artist, engraver and teacher. Shown on this detailed botanical engraving is the Touch-me-not Impatiens (Impatiens noli-me-tangere). This is called the “plate mark”. The print would then be hand colored. This is an original antique botanical print - not a reproduction. It is in excellent condition with no imperfections. It is carefully packaged in an archival plastic sleeve with backing board, and shipped in a cardboard flat mailer with cardboard insert.
