Antique French 1844 (professionally framed) satirical artwork lithograph "Voyage en Chine, no. 23 Periodical: Le Charivari" by Honoré Daumier. 'La maison Aubert' was a French publisher of prints, specializing in satires. Founded in 1829 by Charles Philipon and his brother-in-law Gabriel Aubert. They produced and printed this unique and interesting piece by illustrator and engraver Honoré Daumier. It was published on December 25, 1844 with the title of "Voyage En Chine, no. 23". If you look closely at the piece the bottom left hand corner has writing which reads "Chez Aubert, Pl. de la Bourse, 29." and the bottom right hand corner has writing which reads "lmp. d'Aubert 8 C ie". It is numbered 698 in the bottom right hand corner of the artwork and the number 23 appears above the artwork in the upper right hand corner. It looks like the title "Voyage En Chine" has been covered when it was professionally framed and matted. The framing and matting consists of lovely shades of gray, complimenting the artwork itself. The backside has a universal metal bracket for easy hanging on any wall.
