This is a VERY RARE antique chromolithograph. It came from a French book, L'Art pour tous: Encyclopedie de l"Art Industrial et Decoratif, Vol 12. (Art for All: Encyclopedia of Industrial and Decorative Art) published in Paris in 1873! It is in PRISTINE condition. It features decorative modern Chinese furniture... the lacquered screen showcasing urns with flower arrangements. The text below describes the uniqueness of the lacquer process. "The lacquer was first engraved in the same way as wood blocks for printing, then painted and gilt in the sunken parts....obtained surprising intensities of tone..." The image of the urns with flowers has the utmost of clarity, strong color contrasts, and extraordinary depth and liveliness. The intensity of the decorative urns is further enhanced as they are set against midnight black backgrounds. Note the details of the shimmer of the gilt on the urn on the left and in the basket details of the urn on the right. The plate with documentation and borders measures 11.5 x 14.25 inches; the image of urns approximately measure 9.25 x 11 inches. Borders are clean, consistent with age and history.
