This etching and engraving by Rene Gaillard from a painting by Francois Boucher (French 1703-1770 Paris) belonging to M. Perinet. This engraving is dedicated to Madame la Marechale de Duras, lady in waiting to the Queen and her daughters. Signed by her very humble and obedient servant R. Gaillard. This engraving is characteristic of french paintings under Louis XV (1710-1774). It was customary to dedicate these engravings, which purpose was to introduce works of art to high ranking personalities of the court, who often, were the owners of the original paintings. These engraving had a lot of success and spread in France and abroad the taste of the court. It was done in Paris at the artist studio, rue Saint Jacques, above the Jacobins between the wig maker and the laundresse. A similar print is part of THE MET's collection in NY.
