A beautiful pair of late 18th century French botanical engravings depicting orchard fruits including “Amandier à gros fruit” (large-fruited almond) and the historic plum variety “Diaprée Violette.” These detailed fruit studies were originally produced for the celebrated French horticultural publication Traité des Arbres Fruitiers, documenting cultivated fruit trees and varieties. Each was created using traditional copperplate engraving and delicately hand colored, illustrating the fruit, foliage, blossoms, and seed structures in the scientific style of the period. The plum plate is after the work of botanical illustrator Claude Aubriet and engraved by Charles Milsan, while the almond plate bears the original artist inscription “L.B. del.” Both prints retain the fine engraved linework and visible plate impressions characteristic of late 18th century copperplate printing.
