18th Century Hand-Colored Architectural Engraving By Jean-François De Neufforge, 1757

Chairish

$650

Original 18th century French architectural engraving from L’Architecture Civile by Jean-François de Neufforge, published in Paris in 1757. Titled “Porte propre pour un Chateau,” this finely detailed engraving depicts a château entrance rendered in precise neoclassical form with delicate original hand coloring in soft blue, sepia, and graphite tones. Neufforge was among the most influential ornamental designers and architectural draftsmen of the French Rococo and early Neoclassical period, and his engravings remain highly regarded for their balance of ornament, symmetry, and proportion. This example retains strong impression quality, generous margins, visible plate mark, and beautifully aged laid paper. Acquired from the collection of interior designer Shannon Claire. An elegant piece for neoclassical, European, traditional, or collected interiors. Beautiful displayed framed, float-mounted, or layered on a bookshelf or console.
