This listing is for a mid 18th century English portrait painting. This painting dates to the 2nd half of the 18th century and is attributed to British artist, Dupont Gainsborough (1754-1797). Gainsborough was the nephew and student of famed British artist, Thomas Gainsborough. The painting depicts a young woman. She wears a white dress with a blue sash around her waist. A brown/yellow cape encompasses her. This painting comes in a later gilt wood frame and round surround. The framed painting measures about 38.65 x 32.35 x 2.25 inches The painting itself measures about 25 x 30 inches. This painting is in overall good condition. It was conserved and relined onto new canvas sometime within the last decade. A piece of tape on the reverse contains information found written on the reverse of the original canvas prior to conservation. It reads "Portrait of a lass by Gainsborough, Dupont, nephew of Thomas Gainsborough, bought from estate of Countess Wanda, by David Bowen, 1969."
