18th Century Reverse Mezzotint - “Painting” In Original Frame

Chairish

$850

This striking reverse‑glass mezzotint, titled “Painting,” dates to the mid‑18th century and belongs to the well‑known Arts Allegory series issued in London around 1750. The composition shows a female artist at her easel surrounded by fashionable Georgian figures, with classical ruins in the background — a quintessential decorative subject of the period. The hand‑coloring on this example is exceptionally vivid, surpassing many museum‑held versions. The original 18th‑century frame remains intact, with a later paper backing added for protection; the original wood backboard is still present underneath. Dimensions: 15 3/4" H × 11 3/4" W A rare and decorative Georgian artwork with outstanding color and presence.
