1906 M.b Knowlton Match Strike/ashtray

Hand-painted match holder / ashtray signed & dated "M. B. Knowlton, 1906".The work of well-known artist, Maud Briggs Knowlton,(1870-1956) china painter, recognized watercolorist, one of first female Directors of a major American art museum. Piece features exquisite painting of Dutch girl in traditional clothing standing canal-side; scene continues round the sides to other face showing a windmill along the same waterway.Excellent condition, vibrant colors; photo reflections are not flaws.
