1918 William Meyerowitz Immigrant Etching

William Meyerowitz (1893-1981) "The Immigrant" etching on paper. Probably printed by Allen Sloane (1902-1999). Unsigned. From his New York Times obituary: Mr. Meyerowitz studied at the National Academy of Design from 1912 to 1916. He was represented in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum and other museums here and in Paris and Tel Aviv. In New York, he drew the colorful life of the Lower East Side, in Gloucester, the lines of the harbor and the gardens. His etchings included a series of portraits of Albert Einstein and Supreme Court Justices from Oliver Wendell Holmes to William O. Douglas. This etching is illustrated in "William Meyerowitz: The Artist Speaks" by Theresa B Meyerowitz (1890-2002) (yes, she was 111). Cornwall books, 1986. Combined shipping available, please inquire.
