Original 1920s hand-colored botanical print of the Gladiolus alatus (aka Turkey-wattle flower) . Appeared in "Flowering Plants of South Africa", a series featuring plants native to South Africa. Series format was patterned after “Curtis’s Botanical Magazine”. Series is unique in that it features a later example of hand-coloring of prints. By the time of publication many color prints were being produced by chromolithography or offset printing.
