1924 Rair Pair-Dubonnet Print-By Jean Carlu, Matted

Chairish

$635

RARE to find as a PAIR! This is a set of 2 Dubonnet prints by the acclaimed Art Deco posterist Jean Carlu (1900-1977). They originally were inserts in a French magazine that dates to 1924. They are in EXCELLENT condition with strong color and no indication of age or wear. They tout the sweet, wine-based aperitif, Dubonnet . Dubonnet was first sold in 1846 by Joseph Dubonnet, in response to a competition run by the French Government to find a way of persuading French Foreign Legionnaires in North Africa to drink quinine. Quinine combats malaria but is very bitter by itself. Mixed with a blend of fortified wine, herbs, and spices, Dubonnet took on a spicey, fruity taste and became a popular aperitif like Campari or Lillet. It became the favored drink of Her Majesty, the Queen. These Dubonnet prints feature a dapper man and fashionable woman each seated with a drink of Dubonnet. The gentleman dons a white dinner jacket with a straw Panana hat and the lady is in full regalia with gloves, pearl collar, and cloche hat. "HE" and "SHE" definitely epitomize the roaring 20s. Each piece is signed and dated by Jean Carlu. They each measure 10.5 x 11.5 inches in size. Each comes matted in a neutral tone 16 x 20 inch custom mat ready for a standard size frame. They make great wall decor for a dining area or home bar. You are purchasing 2 matted 1924 vintage prints.
