This is an original 1938 fashion print for Nina Ricci beachwear designs that appeared in a French magazine of the time. It is original to the date and NOT a recent reproduction print. It is illustrated by Leon Benigni (1892-1948), one of the leading Art Deco fashion illustrators who worked with couturiers such as Lanvin, Schiaparelli, Balenciaga, etc. His drawings appeared in Harper's Bazaar, Femina, etc. This image called "Grande Star" features summer sportswear for "la plage", (the beach). The designs were created for an affluent clientele who sought luxurious fabrics. Done is deep marine blue and white jersey with crinkled crepe and trimmed in white stitching. It is a crisp image and speaks to summer days at the shore. Fashion designs by iconic couturiers are hard to find with the passage of time. This print by an iconic Art Deco illustrator is a rarity.
