An excellent First Edition vintage full-color offset lithograph, print, "Faridun Received The Head of His Murdered Son Iraj, Brought To Him By A Messenger On A Camel, All The Courtiers Weep". The original painting is from the SHAHNAMA of Firdausi, separated from a manuscript which has been dispersed throughout the world since it was on the market in 1912. Probably painted at Tabriz about 1330. Collection of M.Henri Vever, Paris. Firdausi's poem, the Shahnama of Book of Kings, was finished in 1010 A.D. It is immensely long epic containing a recension of the Persian tradition of their own history. It opens with accounts of the reigns of kings of two mystical dynasties, the Pishdadi, and the Kayani. Faridun, the first of the Kayanid house, freed the world from the tyrannous rule of the Shake king Zahhak. He had three sons Sam, Tur and Iraj to whom he distributed his vast dominions. The two elder brothers attacked Iraj who had received Iran, out of jealousy and killed him. This offset lithograph, print, comes from a first limited edition art folio published in Switzerland in the 1940. Signed in the print. Printed on heavy wove paper, on one side. Numbered at the lower left corner. Excellent condition - never framed.
