An excellent vintage period offset lithograph, print, after painting "Le Saint Voiturier" (The Holy Coachman, 1911) by Marc Chagall. Comes from a First Limited Edition of portfolio of the artist's early works, created and published by Albert Skira in Geneva, Switzerland in early 1940s. Printed on one side. Hand tipped-in on a board of heavy paper. Information regarding the original painting can be found by lifting the piece. Numbered on the board: 3. Excellent condition of the print; minor edge wear on the board; never framed. Signed in the print (printed), on the scroll. You have to hold the plate upside down to read it: Chagall Chagall Ch Мой [Russian for "My"] Chagall Chagall Chagall Chagall Marc Paris. Paris. Paris. Chaga Overall 11"W x 14.80"H Image 8.25"W x 10.5"H In 1911, when this painting was finished, Marc Chagall was in Paris since 1910 (to 1914), before he returned home to leave Belarus again 8 years later and never come back. This last line "Paris. Paris. Paris." with 3 periods after the name of the city which was like a magnet for him. This is a manifestation of freedom the artist was looking for. This is when he made his decision to leave Belarus and move to Paris, which he could finally did several years later. Four six-pointed stars of David on a the wall of Russian Orthodox Church in XII century style, on the background. Very interesting details!
