1940s After Marc Chagall, "The Soldier Drinks" First Edition Full-Color Print

Chairish

$124

An excellent period full-color print of painting "The Soldier Drinks" (1912-1913) by Marc Chagall. Comes from a rare art folio of the artist, created and published by Albert Skira in Geneva, Switzerland in early 1940s. Signed in the print: "Chagall". Printed on one side. Numbered at the lower right corner: 1. First copy is in excellent condition - minor edge wear, never framed. Second copy has some age wear and some foxing, never framed. We show images of both copies. First copy sells first. Here Cubist theory has played a part in the lay-out, and also in the separation of the various elements of the picture and their independence of each other. The result is a novel kind of perspective in which each object (e.g. the soldier's cap poised above his head) acquires individual significance, a life and movement of its own.
