This is a 1946 vintage print for dance costume designs that originally appeared in a French magazine of the time. It is NOT a recent reproduction print. It features costume designs for the Ballet Chota by Chota Roustaveli that premiered in Monte Carlo in 1946. Rene Gruau. a leading fashion illustrator in Paris, was commissioned to design the costumes. This image features the lead dancers in this performance. Gruau's costume designs are considered significant documents and art pieces today. Note Gruau's iconic use of strong color, black graphic line drawing, painterly imagery, and sense of elegance and glamour. Costume designs prints are rare and highly desirable and collective today.
