1949 French Mid-Century Fashion Print, Matted

Chairish

$165

This is a 1949 Mid-Century French fashion print for a couture hat design by one of the leading hat designers in Paris at the time, Rose Descat. It originally appeared as a fashion illustration in a French magazine. It is NOT a recent reproduction print. In the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s French milliners were as highly esteemed as fashion designers. The hat was not seen as just an accessory but as an important marker of the time, similar to hemlines. Hat designs were protected as designs of couture clothing and thus could not be sketched or photographed ahead of the presentation of collections. French hats were every fashionable woman's dream. They were considered the utmost in elegance. This hat design by Rose Descat is the epitome of fashion. Note the hat, the veil, and of course the feathered accoutrement! For sure it is a showstopper! This illustrated print by fashion illustrator, Guy Demachy, would make great decor in an entrance way and work in any home decor style. It is chic, glamorous and sophisticated. And the rose-red backdrop adds to the drama of the hat. Perfect for the today's vintage fashion collector. Measures 9 x 12.25 inches. Comes matted in a 16 x 20 white custom mat ready for a standard size frame. Please allow time for custom matting.
