Christopher Tugwell (1938-2021) was one of the most prominent landscape artists in South Africa. This painting, oil on board, is from the late 1950's. The young herders and their animals are almost dwarfed by the huge trees that offer an alluring break from the hot sun and the dusty road. Tugwell's paintings are available at his two galleries in South Africa and his paintings have sold in auctions houses throughout South Africa as well as in Germany, the U.K., and the U.S.
