A compelling piece of art, this dark, somber nude is the product of Janina Domanska (1913-1995), a Polish Concentration Camp survivor, who is best known as a Caldecott Medal recipient for authoring and illustrating children's books in the 60s and 70s. This particular piece was painted in Rome before Domanska immigrated to the U.S. in 1952. Originally purchased from a private estate in Saratoga Springs, New York.
