1954 Set Of 2-Balenciaga French Mid-Century Fashion Design Prints, Matted

Chairish

$325

This is a set of 2 French mid-century fashion designs by the iconic Cristobal Balenciaga. They are designs illustrated and signed/dated by Pierre Mourgue (1890-1969) who was a well-acclaimed fashion illustrator who worked in Paris. Mourgue's works were in the collections of Gazette du Bon Ton and later in French Vogue, Femina, and L'Official magazines which catered to the chic haute couture culture of the mid-century years. This set of images are original to 1954 and NOT recent reproductions. They capture the post-war look. They showcase side views of ensembles for the fashionable woman: the narrow wool skirt with an oversized full bodied jacket and the tweed suit with the cropped 3/4 length sleeves. Both designs are worn with long gloves and hats of period design. Note the text (in French) describing the designs. Note too the wonderful "sketchy" quality of the designs which connote a spontaneity and fluidity of lines. They are in clean pristine condition measuring 9.25 x 12.5 inches in size. Each is matted in a neutral tone 16 x 20 inch custom mat ready for a standard size frame. Please see companion set of Dior and Givenchy designs in our shop that coordinate with these 2 images.
