Original tag from the Wisconsin Salon show on verso. This piece was exhibited in the 21st Annual Wisconsin Salon in 1955. This is a very rare painting Kops as he was best known and most prolific as a sculptor. A great piece for any collector of Wisconsin art. Frame is 13" x 16" (and 3" deep). Sight is 8" x 10". Simon Kops (1922–2004) studied at the Institute of Design in Chicago ("The New Bauhaus School") and the Art Institute of Chicago. He spent much of his career in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he taught at several institutions including the Layton School of Art and Cardinal Stritch College. His work primarily featured whimsical metal sculptures and found objects, blending geometric abstraction with figurative elements. He exhibited in one-man shows in New York, Minnesota, California, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
