1957 French Lottery Poster, Linen Backed

Chairish

$445

This is an original French lottery poster that dates to 1957. MINT CONDITION! Backed on clean linen. The French National Loterie was launched in 1933. A very well known event occurred when a barber drew a 5 million Franc win on the first draw! After that notoriety, artists were hired to publicize the loterie nationale. In the mid-century years, artist Lefor Openo created a series of posters inspired by the popular "Commedia dell'arte". This Italian professional theater popularized the Pierrot character and his love, Columbine. These famed characters date back to the 17th-18th centuries. We have recently acquired 4 posters from this series. This one features Columbine saying "pick you ticket today for May's special loterie". The poster has strong vivid color. 14.75 x 22.75 inches in size. It is in superb condition. Comes packaged in a tube. See companion posters in our shop.
