1960 After Hiroshige "The 53 Stations Of Tokaido Road: 15th Station", French Ukiyo-E Print

Chairish

$191

A vintage reproduction print of antique Ukiyo-e woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige, from his series, "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō Road". The Fifteenth Station: Kambara. In the title block: "Snowy Night". Against the background of a dark sky, snowflakes fall gently. On the right, two farmers, one carrying a cylindrical lantern called "odawara chochin", the other in a straw coat carries a bottle of sake. On the left is a lingering traveler, perched on high wooden sandals and holding a half-open umbrella, so that the weight of the snow does not break it, tries to reach an inn. The original print is considered one of the masterpieces of the series. This reproduction print is not a woodblock reproduction, but offset, full-color print. Detailed. Comes from a rare art folio published by Editions du Credit Lyonnais in Paris, France, in 1960. Printed in France, on one side of high quality heavy paper. Blank back, numbered on the back: XVI. Excellent condition - minor edge wear, never pinned, never framed.
