A vintage reproduction print of antique Ukiyo-e woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige, from his series, "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō Road". Forty-Seventh Station: Seki. In the title block: "The Early Morning Departure from the Residence". It is still dark, and the lord's servants are carrying lanterns. On the left, we see the lord's large palanquin and an official in official costume gives orders to the bearers. In the center, at the top, a servant with two large lanterns and four samurai respectfully awaiting orders. The draperies are decorated with fanciful coats of arms that Hiroshige himself composed. This reproduction print is not a woodblock reproduction, but offset, full-color print. Detailed. Comes from a rare art folio published by Editions du Credit Lyonnais in Paris, France, in 1960. Printed in France, on one side of high quality heavy paper. Blank back, numbered on the back: XLVIII. Excellent condition - minor edge wear, never pinned, never framed.
