Born in Spokane, Washington in 1918 Ashlock was known for his abstract, figurative expressionist paintings. The most frequent subject of Ashlock’s works was the female form. He studied at The California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco before eventually teaching there. In 1957 he left for New York and spent decades living and painting there before retiring to San Francisco. His works are housed in major museums throughout the United States and particularly in California and the Pacific Northwest.
