"Pan of Bolts" and on Verso Joan Brown Swimming W/Manuel Neri Walking on Water Sally Wilt studied with Joan at California School of Fine Art Stunning large-scale Bay Area Figurative School two-sided painting by Sally Kissinger Wilt (American, 1936-2004). One side has a painting reflecting the teacher Richard Diebenkorn in Sally's "Pan of Bolts" and the other has a compelling abstract of a man walking on water (Manuel Neri) and a swimmer in the bay (Joan Brown), with blood and shark in the water. Signed and titled on edge. Circa 1962-64, signed on verso "Wilt." Bay Area Figurative painting began with teachers at the California School of Fine Art. Leading artists were David Park, Richard Diebenkorn, Joan Brown, Manuel Neri, Nathan Oliviera, Paul Wonner and Elmer Bischoff. Unframed. Side on canvas edge "Wilt" - "Pan of Bolts" Size: 53"H x 48"W. Wilt, a California artist and writer, was raised in South Bend, Indiana. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with special honors in English from Indiana University. As a painter and printmaker, she studied in Austria with Oskar Kokoshka and then moved to San Francisco in 1962 to study with Richard Diebenkorn at the San Francisco Art Institute. She later taught art and nature classes for the Audubon Society and the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum.
