1967 Aquatint Of A Monkey By Benjamin Levy

A 1967 aquatint print by Israeli-American artist Benjamin Levy (1940-2022). This abstract work depicts a monkey standing on a slender branch. Displayed in a gold tone wooden frame and a cream mat, the print is dated, numbered 50/75, and signed, in Hebrew and English, to the lower edge. Born in Tel Aviv, Levy was born into a family of Yemenite and Sephardi Jews in Tel Aviv. In Israel he studied art under Abraham Yaskil. Levy later moved to Paris where he studied at the École de Montparnasse and then on to New York City where he studied at the Pratt Graphic Art Center. From 1965, Levy divided his time between New York and Israel with his family and participated in over 100 group shows and over 80 solo shows of his works. Levy's works have been part of the collections of the the Jewish Museum in New York City, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, among others.
