A 1968 woodblock print, titled "Constellation No. 2," by Hideo Hagiwara (1913-2007). This abstract print features colorful shapes and lines floating across a deep blue-green background, like a constellation. Held in a gold-tone frame against a cream and tan double mat, this piece is signed, dated, and titled in English as well as Japanese. It is numbered 4/50 lower edge. Hideo Hagiwara was born in Kōfu, Japan but also lived in Korea and Manchuria. Hagiwara studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, graduating with a focus in oil painting. While in school, he attended an elective course by Un'ichi Hiratsuka and was introduced to woodblock. The same year he began working for Takamizawa Woodblock Print Company.
