Artist Bio: Lothar Quinte is considered one of the most successful Op(tical) Art artists in Germany. However, he does not have much in common with the constructive coolness of his Op Art colleagues. Quinte's paintings radiate a poetry that turns the constructive forms into a sensual experience. His veil and window paintings, created in the 1960s, focus on the themes of light and space. Painting, or rather the colorful sound evoked by it in space, is celebrated as the focus of sensual experience. With the series of works of the so-called slit, folding and fan pictures, colored circles, squares and rectangles as color spaces find their way into Quint's pictorial cosmos. The Corona pictures created in the early 1970s represent a further high point. With his Dripping and Net pictures, he continued the gestural style of his first paintings. In the late phase, calm color sounds, color clouds, and auratically charged energy fields dominate.
