We were on the hunt for homo sapiens portraits when this portrait come up at the auction. We were enthralled -- as were many other bidders! But we brought the cow home with us. Too bad our walls are already over-filled; otherwise she would not be on the market on Chairish. A couple of art students chastised me when I referred to the painting as acrylic on canvas. They insisted that it is oil on canvas. My expertise is more antique furniture than art. I have dutifully listed the painting as oil on canvas. But I want to disclose that this was a bone of contention. (Yes, it should be pretty obvious. but the use of a palette knife and the heavy brush strokes made it a bit confusing.) In either case, it is a wonderful painting! Sadly, we cannot find any signature. The painting seems to be in excellent condition. We can identify no flaws or wear. The canvas measures 12 inches in diameter, and it is 1/2 in. deep. We believe that it may have been painted by an artist in southern Virginia (where it was auctioned). We are making a wild guess in speculating that it was painted in the 1970s.
