This is just a great original piece. One of two works I recently acquired by listed american artist volney robbins crosswell jr. Crosswell was a graduate of dartmouth (class of 1944) and also attended mass college of art. He went on to write and illustrate books in the 1960s and 1970s. I have found one example of his work in the hood museum of art at dartmouth. I bought this painting and the other one by the artist because of the subject matter more than anything. Both are wonderful visuals of some sort of labor strike back in the early 1970s. This one is a wonderful view of a group marching holding signs as well as an american and an irish flag. Wonderful imagery. Great color and composition. Oil on canvas measuring 24 x 36 inches. Signed lower right corner. Overall excellent condition. Great original color. There is a small scuff and hole in the upper right corner but otherwise it is in as painted condition. Simple wood slat frame nailed to the outer edge of the painting. Verso has the original typed label by the artist. Really an outstanding original work. Frame measures 37 x 25 inches. Really a great period work of a unique topic. Check my store for the other work by crosswell of what is probably the same labor strike. The artist did illustrate many books and I imagine they both came from the same book but I have been unable to find what book these are from.
