Sigmund Abeles was born 1934 in New York City and raised in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He attended the University of South Carolina and earned a Masters of Fine Art from Columbia University. He also studied at the Art Students League and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
