Chairish

$840

A 1973 Changing Sexuality serigraph print by the German-American artist Richard Lindner (1901-1978). Originally part of a triptych, this work is part of a limited edition run of 100 signed prints of this serigraph set (2000 unsigned copies were produced as well). The work was produced using thirteen vibrant colors, silk-screened to make three separate panels. This portion of the triptych features two figures from the chest up, facing away from each other, dressed in abstract patterned clothing. Both figures wear sunglasses and short haircuts. An abstract design borders the paper. Signed "R. Lindner" to the lower right side. This work is unframed. Richard Lindner was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1901. Lindner studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule (Arts and Crafts School), now the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg in Germany. He worked as an art director until the outbreak of World War II, when he was forced to flee to Paris. In 1941, Lindner moved to the United States and worked in New York City as an illustrator. In New York, he worked with artists and German emigrants such as Albert Einstein, Marlene Dietrich, and Saul Steinberg. In 1952, Lindner started teaching at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn. In 1965, he became a professor at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg, Germany. His paintings often used the sexual symbolism of advertising and investigated gender roles.
