The painting is affectionately titled 'The Kibitzers' -- a Yiddish term that refers to an onlooker who distracts with jokes, banter, and unsolicited advice. Here the artist captures a man in painter's overalls who has clearly been diverted from his work by a group of chitchatty neighbors. The artist has so beautifully captured the slower pace of a bygone era. While the men lean into their conversation, a neglected ladder, paint brush, and can of Dutch Boy stand idly by. The business at hand all but forgotten. Love the artist's attention to detail -- from the bright yellow metal shellback lawn chair to the argyle socks with sandles.
