Black and Beige Textile Wall Hanging titled Zebra Stripe by artist Karen Gutowski Circa 1988 Believe this is 100% Wool 63" x 34" Condition: Excellent, with exception of a small pull -please see photograph The piece was not signed, but was part of a Contemporary Crafts line carried in a business I owned in the 1980's. Her line was discovered through a carefully juried Craft Show by the American Contemporary Crafts Council. Technique from the Artist (see photo of her Biography): The rugs and wall pieces I make are handwoven using a technique called shaft-switching. Some of the yarns are dyed in my studio, others are industrial dyed carpet wools. The pattern and imagery are made by the structure of the weave and the use of many yarns of similar and contracting values. All pieces are woven on a linen warp using wool yarns for weft and are sturdy enough for use on the floor. Dry clean only.
