1980s Original Charlie Hewitt Woodblock Print - "Spirit Fish"

Chairish

$700

Charlie Hewitt is a multi-dimensional artist who is first and foremost a communicator of ideas. He is a thinker and an emotional person who is skilled in the arts of printmaking, painting, sculpture, and especially drawing. No matter what he's creating, an abstract painting, a figurative piece, or a sculpture, everything begins with a drawing. Here's a quote from Charlie describing his early years in New York at his Bleeker Street studio in 1969, " I found myself swimming in an amazing world of new ideas". Everywhere he went he was stimulated by the wild, twenty-four hour energy he wrom his earlier periodas surrounded by. He was constantly experimenting with different mediums, bold colors and lines, and transposing his raw emotion onto the canvases and prints he created. This print is a 1 of 1, which makes it really unique. It's hard to know what the meaning behind this art truly represents, but it could be his connection to the spiritual realm. It reminds me of the old Japanese fish prints "Gyotaku" where the artist would ink an actual fish and make the print from rubbing the back of the paper along the skin of the fish.
