Offering a dynamic 1983 urban street scene by renowned Louisiana artist Janice Sachse (1908-1998). Raised in Baton Rouge, Sachse's paintings often focused the people and places of her home state, even the state's newly built interstate in the 1970s to create a series of paintings that detailed the Louisiana landscape. Love the loose brushwork and bold colors employed in this particular painting, which focuses on the artist's subjective expression of the urban scene, as opposed to a precise representation. The streetscape has a wonderfully distorted and emotionally charged quality to it. It is signed and dated in the lower left and presented in an elegant gold-finished, solid wood frame. Janice Sachse studied art at Louisiana State University and Sophie Newcomb College. She exhibited widely in Louisiana and was represented by Helen Seger's La Boetie Gallery on New York's Upper East Side. Following her death in 1998, the Janice R. Sachse Visiting Artist Series at Louisiana State University was endowed in her honor.
