Terry Parmelee (born 1929) "Ixtlan" woodcut on paper, pencil signed, titled, dated 1988 and numbered 42 of 200. Sheet: 11 x 10 Image 6 x 7.25 inches is a Washington, D.C. based artist and second-generation figure of the Washington Color School. She earned her MFA from American University and taught woodcut at Montgomery College and the Corcoran School of Art, building a career that has included national and international exhibitions and placements in collections such as The Phillips Collection and the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Working across painting and woodcut, Parmelee uses geometric form and systematic color to expand the language of the Washington Color School, introducing symbolism and repetition that challenge fixed visual associations.
