I can't stress what a rare find this is. Hilton Pratt was a well-known and distinguished painter of animals, but Africa was largely unexplored during his lifetime. Pratt died in 1875, less than four years after Stanley uttered his famous greeting "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" Most people had never heard of, much less seen a giraffe.
