This beautifully aged 19th-century painting of Kanazawa, Japan, features three finely detailed Minka (traditional homes), two fishing boats, soft trees, and a pastel sunrise or sunset sky. Looking closely, you can see people conversing and even clothing hanging on a line to dry, depicting the daily life of the local villagers. Signed D Caldwell in the lower left corner, with some markings on the wooden frame that read ' Kanazawa, Japan by Daniel Edmond (Augustus is written below Edmond, but struck out) Caldwell, CF Hong Kong, about 1886. Previously purchased at an Auction in Diss, South Norfolk, England in the 1990s. Kanazawa, Japan, is a picturesque and well-preserved Edo-era city known as "Little Kyoto". It is the capital of Ishikawa.
