19th Century Italian Grand Tour Bronze Plaque Depicting A Pastoral Scene

Chairish

$1,345

Visiting Western Europe (specifically Italy) for cultural enrichment was a right of passage from the 17th century through the 19th century. This was called a Grand Tour, and typically treasures were brought home from the journey. This oval bronze plaque would have been one of those treasures. Dating to the last quarter of the 19th century, this plaque depicts a shepherd and shepherdess rescuing a lost sheep with the loyal herding dog is standing vigil. This plaque is in fair original condition with wear consistent with age and use. There is oxidation in areas and there are some losses to the high areas of the bronze relief. Also, there is some damage to the very old frame. Please see photos. Dimensions: Plaque - 9” width, 11” height Frame - 15” width, 17.5” height
