A nicely framed allegorical mezzotint proof of Oliver Cromwell by famed 19th century engraver Charles Turner from the 17th century engraving by William Faithorne. Nicely researched by the previous owner with clippings in the envelope on the back. The text under the print reads “ Oliver Cromwell Lord Protector of England, Scotland, France and Ireland and the territories thereunto belonging. Engraved by Charles Turner from the celebrated print by William Faithorne. Published by Samuel Woodbury, 112 St. Martins Lane.” In the far right corner the word “proof.” The text in the cartouche reads “ The emblem of England’s distractions also of her attained and further expected freedom and happiness.” Size: 20.5” h x 15.5” w x 1” d. Specifics: brown wooden frame with brown velvet matting. The word proof indicates a higher print quality. Condition: text is fading, minor foxing visible behind the text
