An original oil on paper by American abstract painter George Kokines (b. 1930–2012), titled Center Seating. Created in 1962, this work reflects Kokines’s early engagement with Abstract Expressionism and gestural mark-making. The composition is characterized by layered forms and energetic brushwork that evoke a sense of movement and spatial tension. George Kokines studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he earned his BFA and MFA. In the 1960s, his paintings were exhibited at prominent Chicago venues, including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Richard Feigen Gallery, as well as nationally in New York. Over his career, Kokines’s work evolved to incorporate textured surfaces and references to myth and memory. Center Setting is presented in a giltwood matted frame.
